Alaska is famous around the world for its fishing.  Fish are abundant in the waters of Alaska, from salmon rich southeast to the North Slope with grayling and char in clear, often ice locked streams.

Alaska residents are great anglers -- men, women and children alike enjoy it and even count on fishing as an important source of high quality food. 

Here are a few of the fishing service providers we have come to know in the course of our time in Alaska

• Mike and Karen Keating operate Big Blue Charters from one of the most beautiful places on the planet -- and one of the best for fishing, too.  They operate a small charter fleet that fishes for Alaska salmon, halibut, and rockfish out of Sitka, Alaska.  Karen regularly updates their scrapbook that shows anglers and their catches over the past few years.  Mike and Karen also manage Big Blue Fisheries a.k.a. Alaska Smoked Fish where you can buy fresh frozen or smoked wild caught Alaska salmon, halibut, crab, shrimp and other natural seafood and have it delivered to your home for your seafood party.

• Captain Rob Scherer's Classic Alaska Charters cruises Alaska's inside passage in his small ship and fishes for salmon and halibut from Ketchikan.  Rob knows southern southeast waters and can take you and your group for a memorable week's cruise in beautiful wilderness country where you will catch fish and see wildlife, eat good food and have an incredible time.

• Steve and Peggy Andresen moved from Wasilla, Alaska to Port Lions on Kodiak Island so they could live full time at Port Lions Lodge.  The northwest tip of Kodiak Island is great fishing country for salmon and halibut, along with steelhead and more.

• Derek Floyd with Reel Class Charters is another fisherman with years of experience hooking fishermen up with Alaska halibut and salmon out of Sitka, Alaska. 

• Alaskan Fishing Fever charters says it all with their business name.  Paul and Debbie Media take fishing parties from Ninilchik and Homer, Alaska for salmon and halibut.  Expect feverish fishing!

• Chuck and Jeanette Haydu of Kingfisher Charters and Lodge have lived for many years on Prince of Wales Island.  They provide lots of opportunities for great salmon fishing in a comfortable but thoroughly Alaska lodge environment.

• Down in Sitka you'll find Vonnie's, a bed and breakfast with a Sitka fishing orientation. Vonnie provides saltwater fishing charters from her own boats.  Freshwater fishing is available.
