DCDA Presents "Whispering Hope"
Delta Christian Drama Association, a volunteer community theater group, is pleased to announce its fourteenth annual original Christmas stage play.
1943 is a bleak year for Mueller Manor Orphanage in Basingstoke, England. Its founder and director, Christopher Blair, struggles to feed his ragtag flock of war orphans while protecting them from falling Luftwaffe bombs. To make things worse, an agent for the Child Migrant's Programme keeps poking about, angling for any excuse to remove his orphans and ship them abroad as cheap labor to Australia, Canada or South Africa.
If only Christopher's Scottish bride, Maggie, were still alive, he might feel able to manage. But, alas, their daughter, Effie, had carelessly run Mummy over with the family automobile, eleven years ago. With Maggie dead, Christopher's faith and purpose for living died as well. Bitter and discouraged, he plods along, angry at God and Effie, performing his drudging duty, while pushing aside all that reminds him of his late wife, including her joy and wonder at the miracle of Christmas.
Then, amid the bleakness of war and grief, hope arrives in a nurse's smock. Will Rose William's infectious smile, zest for life, and heart bubbling over with prayer and compassion be able to bring Christmas back to Mueller Manor at last?
"Whispering Hope, featuring an impressive cast of young talent from Delta Junction and North Pole, may be viewed at Living Waters Assembly of God on December 8, 9, 15, and 16. Shows begin at 6:00 pm sharp. Come early if you want a good seat. This year's script was written by locals, George Hosier and Heather Magee.
Bring family and friends to enjoy this beloved Delta Junction tradition. All performances are free, and a silent auction on site will help recoup expenditures for the production. For questions contact DCDA on Facebook, or go to www.dcda.info or text 907-987-2234. See you there.
