Troop 56 boyscout got their fall season going by having a bonfire and hotdog roast Oct. 15th. Bradley and Steve (above) are hoping that more kids their age are interested in scouting. Troop 56 has downsized recently as a number of older scouts have recently aged out of scouting. To join scouts boys must be at least 11 years old or starting the 5th grade, and enjoy outdoor activities. Parents help make the scouting program work by helping with camping logistics, counseling for merit badges, and the like. There is a need for leaders, those interesting in becoming assistant scoutmasters are encourage to call 895-1032 for more information. Photo courtesy of Fronty Parker.

Big Lake with the Alaska Range in the background
Back in September, ADF&G began removing RT that had been planted in Big Lake and West Pond along Meadows Road on Fort Greely. These lakes were stocked in late July with one inch Rainbow fry. In two months time these fish grew two to three inches in length and were trapped out and planted into Quartz Lake.  ADF&G took about 23,000 fish out of these two lakes over a two week period. This picture, taken by Jeff Mason on Big Lake, has a fabulous view of the Alaska Range in the background.

Mayor Gilbertson and Mary Leith-Dowling presented an appreciation plaque to Ron Lester at the October 2, 2002 Council meeting. Ron was honored for his volunteer leadership in organizing and accomplishing projects at Rest Haven Cemetery. Mary emphasized that the work done the past two summers would not have happened without Ron's efforts. Photo courtesy City of Delta Junction.

Community Choir Starts Christmas Rehearsals

A few snowflakes have been seen locally, signaling the change in season. The Delta Community Choir has noticed the message from “Mother Nature” and is starting rehearsals for their annual Christmas Concert to be held December 19th.

The first rehearsal will be Thursday, October 10th from 7 to 9 p.m. Rehearsals will be every Thursday, and on selected Tuesdays, at the Mormon Church (located at the corner of Deborah and Hess, just 3 blocks from the Library and Community Center in downtown Delta). Updated rehearsal schedules and the choir bulletin board can be accessed online at www.wildak.net/deltachoir

All adults and mature high school students in the area are invited to join the choir. The ability to read music is helpful, but not a requirement for membership. I’m looking forward to another fun-filled season with the Community Choir!  ksharp@wildak.net phone #907-895-4911

The attached picture was taken October 8th at the Delta Clearwater River.  Fish and Game conducted their annual Coho egg-take for young students from Fairbanks and Delta. Despite a brisk wind about 400 kids showed up including students from the Delta School, (Rick Johnson's third grade class) Whitestone Farms, (John Donaldson) and New Hope (Kristin Bittenbender) participated. Each classroom can acquire about 500 salmon eggs to hatch out and raise over the next five months. Our local students are permitted to release these young fry back into the Clearwater River next spring. The student witness all the different development stages of the eggs and learn about fishes life history.  Photo courtesy of Fronty Parker.
