Wireless Internet coming to Delta
Residential and business wireless internet will
soon be available in the Delta Junction area. The initial
coverage area will be centered in the Delta Junction townsite
near School Road and and Aurora Street, and extending
approximately 3.5 miles, depending on geography. Residential
speeds will be available from 256 to 768 kbps with business
speeds up to 5 mbps.
Wireless Delta Internet Services expects to
provide the fastest internet service currently available in the
area, exceeding even satellite. They also expect to increase the
coverage area as usage increases. Initial plans call for one or
more free local hotspots that will cover part of the downtown
area. These will be available to anyone with an 802.11b wireless
card.
Wireless Delta is now taking reservations for
high speed internet access for the Delta Junction. Contact
Candy@wirelessdelta.com for more information or
see their website.

Looking for Little Red Riding Hood? Delta local Gary Cooper took this photo near
Settlers Bay outside of Ketchikan, Alaska. He spotted a large dark animal off the side of the road. Thinking it might be a bear he pulled over and
grabbed his camera. However, instead of a bear, a wolf walked out of the bushes and crossed the road just behind the car when this picture was taken.
The boy scout in the picture are making a deposit at the GVEA dumpster this last Saturday. Four of the boys in the picture are crossing over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts this weekend.

in the Delta area. Glad we won't be seeing any more of that for a while! (we
hope!)

COMMUNITY CLEAN UP DAY
Saturday, May 15th
Come out and show your pride in how the community
looks by participating in Community Clean Up Day 2004. Help clean
up our roadsides and park areas so that we can show off our best
to travelers, tourists and locals alike.
As we have done in the past we are asking for
volunteers, groups, and organizations to help Clean Up Delta by
picking up trash along the highway and local streets.
Once again Delta Sanitation helping out with their donation of the
large roll-off dumpster and the City of Delta is allowing free use
of the landfill for our collected litter. Clean up starts at the
Visitors Center at 8 am to organize the volunteers.
A cook-out will be held at noon in the Visitors
Center parking lot. Please bring your favorite dessert to share
(brownies and cookies are especially great!). We need people to
help pick up trash as well as to transport garbage bags from the
roadside to the dumpster.
Please call Martha Kimball 895-2004 if you would
like to help or need further information.

Delta Library and Landfill Construction Start
The new Delta Junction Library and Landfill construction
projects are officially underway. UNIT/SKW LLC is the general
contractor on both projects and has hired local residents Pete
Sorenson to supervise the Library Project and Ray Shannon as the
superintendent of the landfill. These hirings continue the strong
local hire policy that UNIT/SKW LLC has utilized over the last two
construction seasons.
Over 30 Delta residents have been on the payroll of UNIT/SKW LLC
for the various projects that have been constructed for the Fort
Greely Missile Site, the Delta/Greely School District and the City
of Delta Junction.
Local Delta earthwork firms, Alaska Unlimited and Carns General
Contractors are working hard to get the sites ready for the rest
of the construction crews to start work
These projects will be completed by September of this year.

Work Status for City Projects
Contracts have been let for the citys construction this year.
Both the Library and the Landfill were let to a union contractor.
Thus all employees will be dispatched from union halls in
Fairbanks.
The Firehall, however, was let to a non-union firm. The Contractor
is Stanton Construction out of Fairbanks. Stanton Construction is
non-union and has already hired its work force from Delta Junction
and Fairbanks.
The major sub-contractors are:
Denali Mechanical, FairbanksNon-union452-8531; Must have Alaska
plumbers license---willing to talk to anyone with license;

I have some new pictures to send to you. These are from My school
The Art Institute of Seattle's Annual Fashion show, which was held
on March 19th
2004 at the Moore Theatre in Down town Seattle. Over 1600 people
came to see this event.
I am sending these two different pictures. One is smaller but
brighter and more clear. and the other has more people in the
picture, but it is a little on the dark side. These were the
best ones I could get my hands on. I'll just let you pick
which one you like the best. [Webmaster note: I changed the color
in the second picture to better show the figures. Also,
click on each picture to see a larger version.]
This show was one of the biggest and the best project that I have
worked on so far. I designed the set. and I a total of 24 designs
throughout the show.
I worked on this project over the course of 9 months. I must say
that It was not easy, not at all it was very stress full.
My group of models and I had more fun than any other group in the
whole show. The show was divided into 5 sections and we were
section 3 right in the middle. We were meant to be the climax and
highest point of activity in the show. There we were dancing
around in the fog to the music of "MY
Shirona" fog was spewing from the Fog machines, Each of us
swinging a weapon in the air. The stage lights were constantly
changing. It was very exciting. Afterwards people said they will
never think of My Shirona the same way again!
By Far it was the Best show that our school has had so far! Many
people were happy. When my designs went on stage and I hear
screaming and clapping and cheering, then I know that I have done
my Job!
7 awards were given out at the end of the night. I received the
Award for Best Theatrical Design. The winning Design was the
Barbarian Bird that I
sent a picture of earlier this year in January/February!
Things are just a little less stressful now, but I still have many
things to be working on. I will Graduate from School on June 18th,
and the next day I will be up in Fairbanks to participate in the
Midnight sun run! This will be my 4th time doing the Run!
Thanks Delta news Web!
