This picture of a “monkey flower” was taken on Tuesday August 22, one of a few late blooming flowers in the interior. This flower is located in the backwater springs of the Delta Clearwater River, and I have not seen it elsewhere in the interior. It is a flower commonly found in California, so why here? specifically, the Clearwater River? perhaps it survives because the river does not freeze in the winter and the root system in the unfrozen mud, is preserved.
