Florence B. Carns went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2015, after a four year fight with Multiple Cell Myeloma, in Delta Junction, Alaska. Florence, affectionately known as Flo, was 76. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her husband, Ed, son, Ed, and Anna, friend, in the Donets’ home. In the last three years, Anna Donets has been Flo’s devoted caregiver. Her tireless service and unconditional love is a commendation to Anna and her family.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, April 4, 1939, to Matilda Ray and William Kinney. Flo’s life had a rough beginning, but as a young child music became a joy in her life; she always loved singing and dancing. Ginger, Flo’s best childhood friend, has been a close friend and confidante. As girls, Ginger and Flo were as inseparable as sisters and have remained this way for all of Flo’s life.
Edwin and Florence were united in marriage November 5, 1966, in Toledo, Ohio, at Calvary Bible Chapel. They were united in faith on December 27,1970, when they both came to know Christ as their Savior. Shortly thereafter, in 1973, they moved to Living Word Ministry (Edgerton), Copper Center, Alaska. While there, embracing community life, Flo cooked, took care of children, worked in the garden, and did every job conceivable for a woman living in the Last Frontier. Ed and Flo moved to Delta Junction in 1990 where Flo created a home while Ed went to work on the pipeline. In 1994, Flo began the Victorian Inn Bed & Breakfast. Once again, she poured her heart into serving people. The winters between 2011 to 2015 were spent in Arizona, but once again Flo returned home to Alaska in June, 2015, where she was lovingly cared for.
Best known for her elegant hospitality, Flo was a gracious lady. Flo loved caring for people and especially for her grandchildren. With her natural homemaking abilities and knack for decorating, each of their houses became a comfortable home for her family. Flo lavished affection on everyone but especially her grandchildren and her pets; one of her favorite hobbies was shopping. Flo, in the words of her husband, made every day count by being “a stubborn woman full of the love of God”.
Flo is survived by her husband, Edwin Carns; children (and spouses) Michael Shawn McGee, Anthony Jerome (Jeanne) Carns, Edwin James Carns; daughter, Robyn (Russell) Ward; daughter in law, Eileen Carns; numerous grandchildren: Jordan and Jenna Carns, Jennifer Culliford, Alexandra, Travis and Max Carns, Aiden and Jessica McGee; one great grandchild, Cecilia Carns; Aunt Jacqueline Sweet; cousin, Donna Perez; niece, Betty Jean Parton.
