Take Advantage of BBB’s Free Shredding Event
Anchorage, Alaska — April 13, 2015 — Consumers can be the first line of defense in protecting their identities. According to the Consumer Sentinel Network, identity theft was the No. 1 complaint category in 2014 with 13 percent of overall complaints. In Alaska, there were 542 reported victims.
To protect Alaskans, Better Business Bureau serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington is hosting a Secure Your ID Day in conjunction with the fourth annual Financial Fitness Fair on April 18 at the Mall at Sears from 10 a.m. -2:00 p.m. This event features free on-site shredding and cell phone recycling. The Financial Fitness Fair will include community organizations and financial institutions offering free credit reports, financial information, workshops and door prizes.
Shred Alaska mobile shredding trucks will be on-site accepting up to three bags or boxes of unwanted documents per person. Please note that cardboard and three-ring binders cannot be accepted.
BBB staff will be available to answer questions about preventing identity theft and provide resources for victims. View BBB’s suggested Records Retention Schedule to see how long to keep personal information before shredding.
