I have been asked many times by family members and friends who live in the Lower 48, why I stay in Alaska…and more distinctly…Delta Junction. I tell them, the Delta Greely Community is my home. We are family. We fight like siblings over many things. But when crisis occurs, we are there for each other.
Once again, this has been proven by the outpouring of support my family and I received during our time of need. I was able to be at my husband’s side during his last months in this world and not have to worry about my home, my pets or how I could afford to stay with him while being so far away from home. This community came through for us and I am extremely grateful!
I am especially grateful to Ellen Clark, Rob Gerber, Patty Anderson, Connie Knix and Pablo Martinez for keeping an eye on my place and taking care of my cats. I am thankful to Christie Mason and the Neil and Emily Schenk family for making me get out of the hospital and be a part of the world when they were in Anchorage. Thank you Ed, Gail and the IGA Staff for allowing the donation cans to be put out and Carol Crandall for collecting the funds and the Moose Lodge for running the fund raiser. The money helped pay for my room at Hickel House keeping me close to the hospital and my husband’s side.
I am indebted to Kathy Vander Zwaag, Hillary Shepherd and Cindy Aillaud for stepping in to help our brand new Advisory Teacher, Heidi Mintun, keep the Raven Office running as smoothly as possible. To my Raven Families…my thanks for your patience.
The prayers, positive thoughts, words of encouragement, and financial support I received during this very difficult time allowed me to be there for my husband when he needed me most. I am so thankful to be a part of this wonderful community.
