Thanks to the Gardeners, Host/Hostesses and Volunteers of the Sullivan Roadhouse
The last gardening days at the roadhouse was a beehive of activity. The regular volunteers were kept busy directing local youth in cleaning out the gardens, filing potholes, pruning shrubs, removing dirt and even some holiday projects. It is truly amazing how much can be accomplished with many hands and a little supervision. We experienced this same overwhelming accomplishment in the spring when Mr. Hanson’s class arrived ready to work; the group scoured the grounds and whipped it into shape! We don’t have the names of all the students and parents who participated in the spring and fall workday, however we do appreciate all their efforts. Thank YOU!
A Huge thanks to our “Constant Gardeners” – these are the volunteers that show up consistently and not only worked in the gardens, they act as museum hosts, clean house, help with functions, and perform an assortment of tasks: Mary Ann Czmer, Carol Dufendach, Mike Farrar, LouAnn Fett and grandsons Gage, Dade and Rowdy Lentz, Debra Fortune, Christy Roden, and Karin Senatore.
A very special thank-you to Mike Farrar, he undertook the chore of maintaining the roadhouse lawns and adjoining areas throughout the summer. He went above and beyond and thanks to his efforts the landscape surrounding this Delta treasure was significant.
Roadhouse Hosts/Hostesses, Katie Behrens, Flower Cole, Wayne Crowson, Bob and Ann Geise, Bruce Grossmann, Tina Kezer, John Lewis, Tony (the book dude) Tracey Porreca, Christy Roden, Karin Senatore and Nancy Williams. These individuals not only entertained the visitors they kept the roadhouse neat and tidy, watered the gardens (before the rains came), helped weed, deadhead and there were fresh flowers through out the museum weekly. A special thanks to Nancy Williams for her leadership in organizing the volunteers and keeping everyone on track and inspired.
Additional thanks to:
Mr. Hanson’s Spring and Fall classes with coordination from the Salcha-Delta Soil and Water Conservation District’s Tammie Kovalenko and assistance from Lynn Bundy and Mallory Wrigley. Plus parents volunteers who attended the workday.

New Horizons students include: Myles Scott, Cheyanne Lester, Cariane Gonazalez, DD Hodge and Madison Gardner. Delta Greely Home School: DeeDee Webb, Miles and Wesly Patton (and mom Kelly), Tyler, Brendan, and Ryan Hudgin, Isaac, Abigail, and Josiah Ruse.
It is always a pleasure to be at the roadhouse, witnessing the appreciation that folks feel when they read about the lives of Ma and Pa Sullivan. They are truly fascinated by its history, the imagined hardships and adventures that passed through this period of time. It is our hope that everyone that has lent a hand in maintaining this Alaska treasure are blessed with a sense of pride and ownership for without you it would not shine as bright.
