The University of Alaska Fairbanks Mining Extension will offer a basic prospecting workshop April 5 at the Delta Mine Training Center.
The class will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include a tour of the underground, hard rock training mine.
Instructor Dave Wright has lived and prospected in the Interior since the early 1970s, mostly in the Goodpaster and Richardson districts — and he has experience with locating, developing and promoting mining properties.
The workshop will cover ore material testing and identification, different types of geological maps, staking a claim, prospecting tools and equipment, geochemical sampling methods, gold panning and sluicing, and an overview of rock and mineral deposits.
The workshop fee of $50 includes lunch. Register online at bit.ly/ces-workshops. The Delta Mine Training Center is located 30 miles south of Delta Junction, near Mile 1392 of the Alaska Highway.
