HEADQUARTERS, U.S. ARMY ALASKA, FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska – Fort Wainwright will be the site of the U.S. Army Alaska Winter Games, March 10-13. There will be increased bus and military vehicle traffic on Fort Wainwright during the week between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Please plan for longer drive times and increased traffic flow if accessing post during that week. Military or privately owned vehicles will not be allowed to park on Nautilus Road throughout the competition week. The U.S. Army Alaska Winter Games will test the Soldiers’ and units’ ability to execute required cold weather skills and tasks and build esprit de corps with tough, demanding and realistic training, all while competing against each other and having fun. The games are not related to the Arctic Winter games which are being conducted March 15-22.
The U.S. Army Alaska Winter Games will have numerous 10-Soldier teams from various units competing in events such as downhill skiing, skijoring, stress shoot, Ahkio sled pull and other common Soldier skills.
