The 2014 Yukon Quest International 1,000-mile Sled Dog Race starts Feb. 1st on the Chena River in downtown Fairbanks, with the top teams finishing in Whitehorse, YT, Canada 9-11 days later. The race start alternates between the two cities each year. Downtown Fairbanks along Chena River near Chushman Street Bridge The Yukon Quest will have its smallest field ever this year, with just 18 mushers remaining in the 1,000-mile sled dog race.
The 2014 race, however, should be more lucrative that last year’s run. The purse for this year’s Yukon Quest will be at least $115,000 — an increase from the 2013 pot of $100,000, but a dip from its peak of $150,000.
The top 15 mushers finish in the money, so there’s a decent chance that everyone who crosses the finish line in Whitehorse will claim some of the purse.
