Bill passed away December 1, 2013 at his home in Delta Junction. He was born May 17, 1954 to Herbert Frank Wright and Evelyn Virginia Lacy in Douglas, Arizona. Bill graduated from Cliff, New Mexico High School in 1972 and volunteered for the Marine Corps. He proudly served 9 years and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. His favorite assignment was as an embassy guard in La Paz, Bolivia where he would hike the Inca Trail.
In 1982 Bill moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico and went to work for Bendix Field Engineering at the Johnson Space Center, White Sands Missile Range for the Tracking Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS). In 1992 he met his future wife, Lynn at work and they married in 1999. Over the 22 years that Bill worked at TDRSS he filled many different positions, the last was as a satellite controller.
In 2004, Bill and Lynn decided to move to Delta Junction, where they went to work for the Missile Defense Program. Bill continued to work as a MILSATCOM operator, he was always willing to share information and teach others.
He was the Sergeant Major for the 5th Battalion of the Alaska State Defense Force for 8 years and loved the thought of helping people in the community. Bill always lived the Marine Corps philosophy; “Semper Fi”.
Bill had a knack for making friends wherever he went. He loved all animals, viewing the mountains, and the general beauty of living in Alaska. Bill is preceded in death by his father Frank and mother Evelyn and half-brother Charlie. He is survived by his wife of 14 years Lynn, step-daughter Joann Daubenschmidt of Gwinn, Michigan, Sister Charla Wright of Sheridan, Wyoming and in-laws Jim and Linda Sever of Picayune, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Heart Fur Animals, HC 60 Box 4030, Delta Junction, AK. 99737 in memory of Bill.
