(Delta Junction, AK) – On Saturday, Aug. 10, Alaska State Parks will host “Kids Day at Rika’s,” featuring tours, a scavenger hunt, games, and arts & crafts activities for children at Rika’s Roadhouse, located roughly eight miles north of Delta Junction along the Richardson Highway.
“Kids Day at Rika’s” kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Kids’ tours of the historic roadhouse are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. There will be stations set up for kids to enjoy games, arts & crafts activities, and a historical scavenger hunt, with all activities concluding at 2 p.m.
Snacks will be served and families can enjoy a picnic by Rika’s Garden – by bringing a lunch or purchasing lunch at the park restaurant. Don’t forget a picnic blanket.
Rika’s Roadhouse is the centerpiece of the Big Delta State Historical Park. The roadhouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, prospered for many years under the management of Rika Wallen, a Swedish immigrant. The roadhouse closed in the 1950s but was restored and is now a popular tourist destination. The surrounding historical park includes a campground and picnic area.
Anyone who would like more information about this event should contact the Alaska State Parks-Delta Junction office at 907-895-2113.
