How Do You Value the GED?
Community members, small and big business owners, and military human resource department, I need your opinion of how you value or de-value the General Education Development -GED in comparison to a high school diploma.
Being the Rural GED Instructor in the Delta area for Adult Learning Programs of Alaska, I have helped to facilitate young and old achieve their goal for a Certificate of High School Equivalency. I see their struggles, feel their pain, share their joy – their smile and light step as they walk in the procession at the graduation commencement service.
Do you remember the joyful anticipation you felt when you received your diploma, received your university or college acceptance letter in the mail. That feeling of expectation. That green light that says “GO FORWARD” toward your goal. It is that same feeling they experience when they hold that certificate in their hand.
These young people and adults govern their time and apply the discipline needed to study and test to move forward in fulfilling their dreams. Most do not have parents and tutors and governors goading them forward; it is their determination that makes it happen.
So what do you think? Please share your thoughts. You can submit your response to me at email@example.com or mail it to PO Box 1188, Delta Junction, AK 99737.
