Mrs. Hannelore H. Dennison, age 86, died September 20, 2012 at the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer from a heart attack.
A memorial service will be held at Delta Presbyterian Faith Lutheran Church in Delta Junction at 2 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2012. Reception after the service.
Hannelore was born April 10, 1926 in Germany to Wilhelm and Hanna Heinaman. In 1952, Bill and her three daughters, Carrita, Linda, and Terry, traveled up the Alcan to settle in Delta Junction. There they started a trailer court, a laundromat, and service station in the heart of “downtown” Delta Junction. After an unsuccessful marriage, she became the manager of Diehl’s Shopping Center. She loved her work there, particularly visiting with German tourists.
In 1965, she married the love of her life, Leigh Dennison. They lived in a large log house on the Richardson Highway, heated by two wood stoves. Their giant woodpiles adjacent to the house often attracted the attention of tourists.
She was a member of Delta Presbyterian Church and Pioneers of Alaska and enjoyed Alaska history, cooking, and reading.
They lived there happily until their retirement, when they moved to Primrose Retirement Community. She made many friends there and they both cherished their new neighbors. The family wrote, “Known and loved by many, Hannelore ‘Bill’ was always ready with a helping hand and a willing smile.”
Hannelore is survived by her husband, Leigh Dennison of Wasilla; daughters, Carrita Campbell of Juneau, Linda Crawford of North Pole, Terry Rubincan of Anchorage; sons-in-law Jim Campbell of Juneau, Glenn Crawford of North Pole, Lawrence Gilbertson of Delta Junction; grandchildren Rhonda Gilbertson, Lance Gilbertson, Cameron and Cacie Crawford of Fairbanks, Carl Morris of Washington, Beth Balken of Montana, and numerous great-grandchildren. Hannelore was preceded in death by her mother, Hanna Heinaman, and her father, Wilhelm Heinaman.
